Shivam Roy Prabhakar, a young man, learned his lesson early in life. After five years in the profession, the 23-year-old from Kasganj (UP) has already tried his hand at writing and directing in addition to performing.
“Acting as a profession will not suffice in today’s world; multitasking is essential. Top industry figures are experimenting with writing, producing, and directing. So far, I’ve completed two films as the protagonist, produced a music video, and am finalising the screenplay for Raam Rachi Rakha. “I am excited to perform and direct it in the coming months,” says the Jijaji Chhat Par Hai actor.
The film is under pre-production, and they hope to begin filming in Ayodhya soon.
“I am playing lead in The Third Hacker with debutant Priya Sharma which is set for an OTT release while the creators aim to release Love in Dehradun in cinemas. I’m teamed with Karishma Wable in the latter. “I expect both of my projects will be released later this year,” he says.
Prabhakar appears in two songs. “My first song was Chaal Ghazab Hai with Zannat Zubair, performed by Pawni Pandey and Prince Yadav, followed by Haan Karde with Ashi Singh. “I tried in directing with Kailashi Avinashi for Lucknow-based vocalist Vardaan Singh,” he says.
“Someone recognised me and gave me a role in Ram Leela,” he tells us about his trip. My parents first refused, but later agreed. In Class X, I won my district and began acting in plays in Delhi and with the Aligarh Muslim University theatrical club.”
He met actor Mohd Ali Shah, nephew of Naseeruddin Shah, at AMU and was urged to go to Mumbai.
“I lived at his flat for the first two months, but then you have to fight your own struggle. I began the audition practise by playing several minor characters. CID and Crime Patrol episodes helped me stay on track. In between, I had little roles in Bajrangi Bhaijaan, MS Dhoni: The Untold Story, Dasvi, and Suryaputra Karna.”
